Tiu-kok Heng was from Kap-tsu-lan on the east-coast. On entering he knew me at once and said "I sent a man for you so that I might see and thank you for having taught me to worship the true god; also thank you for great kindness during my illness. God is true-Every word between is true-Jesus true." I asked "Do you feel any physical pain? " "None whatever." "Would you like to live here longer ? " "No' I only wish my wife and Child to worship the true God and never forsake him." "Would you like us to sing a hymn? " "Very much." We sang the 41st "Forever with the Lord". He joined raising himself up as much as possible…Seeing the end fast approaching I said now we will go and come by and bye… "I thank you again' peace to you all' my hope is we will meet in heaven". He said and I no sooner got back to the house than a messenger came saying "he was gone" Gone indeed in peace gone to sleep to wake in lofty mansions bright and fair…He further wished me to sing hymn 10th i.e. Psalm 121st at his grave…He was baptized three years ago at Hoan-sia-thau in the Kap-tsu-lan plain Nov. 4th 1888. He died when 40 years old…Taught School for 15 years and was exceptionally popular. Living near the chapel he got acquainted with the preacher there. Then attended worship and got a Bible which he soon pronounced better than the writing of Confucius. After becoming a convert his steadfast upright character soon become known. This was his second session at oxford Col. He became most unassuming and humble…He leaves a wife and small boy behind to mourn his loss. I never saw a literary man who became so emptied of Confucius and filled with Jesus Christ. Examine of children(19) Leg amputated. |
